You really think that the mainstream media has moved steadily to the left? I believe the opposite is true. I remember the media of my childhood as being a lot more confrontational with the powers that be and more lopsided with liberals. Today's media is concentrated in huge corporations like GE and News Corp. There are a lot more conservative voices in the mainstream media today than there were 30 years ago. There are many corporate and government scandals that are reported in the alternative leftwing press like The Nation and Mother Jones that never makes it into the mainstream media. In my view, the mainstream media has slowly moved to the center during my lifetime.
