Germany's puppet government in France was no more
legitimate than Saddam's government when he took power
& "cleansed" the existing leadership by personally
slaughtering many of them himself.

In the end both French & Iraqi citizens were liberated from
corrupt & horrifically brutal regimes. Liberation was the
point of contention in my reply FWIW. In any event, there
are too many similarities between Saddam's reign & Hitler's
regin to dismiss all comparisons.

"I think the war crimes angle and/or crimes against
humanity was the strongest case to be made against Saddam,
but we did not take the time to make such a case."

Actually, this was a consistent subtext to the other
legitimate reasons to remove Saddam from power. Senior
officials & President Bush mentioned the humanitarian
crisis quite frequently & presented compelling evidence of
such.

Unfortunately, the UN & most of the so called civilized
world would have been even more vehemently against removing
Saddam from power if war crimes angle and/or crimes against
humanity was our stated position.
