I believe my comparison was valid - in the US its race related, in India its religion related. Whats the difference, I ask ?

Well, as I said, Pakistan is one difference. The LA riots did not have immediate foreign policy ramifications.

Another difference is the persistent reports that prominent regional leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party were actively inciting and participating in the violence.

Another difference is scale: the total death toll in the Gujarat violence was at least 900, with many missing; human rights activists believe the real total was closer to 2000. Numerous rapes and other atrocities were reported.

It's hard to look at this, and at some of the statements from BJP and RSS leaders, and conclude that everything's really ok.
