elmat, Absolutely nothing Well if we did have an AIDS vaccine that would help alas.. 1) Colonization by slowly making African better. on balance for the colonizers yes but for the natives ? They are expendable. 2) Independency by given them self-rule. They had that before #1 above. Absolutely nothing, a westerners can do to improve the conditions of Sub-Sahel Africa Sadly though I would agree but would not limit that statement to sub Saharan Africa. I think it goes to the heart of Bush's grand experiment in Iraq... I would also submit that western interference has retarded any most meaningful social development..., unfortunately not the usage of some pretty devastating technology... The whole western hemisphere from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, We've been down this road before... The success has lot to due with the paucity and / or complete or severe extermination of natives. I see where you are coming from though. They are among many areas of the world that have not left behind their tribalism... Those Star Trek guys are pretty smart with that Prime Directive... but they are much more principled than real people... ;o) have a good weekend regards Kastel
