Searle: I disagree with nothing in the scenario you have described and <until the Iraqi war, it was being done more subtly (talk of "globalism" etc) but now it's perfectly clear that the US intends to enslave the world, if necessary by force > makes more sense (to me) than all the nonsense about WMDs.

Maybe I am.

And by virtue of admitting that i don't know what i'm talking about, i have the freedom to make the following statements without fear of feeling stupid. And this is how it seems to me: Everyone talks about the weather but no one DOES anything about it - and the same with the economy (because we can't?). Maybe tweak things and speed it up or slow it down a bit (and give ourselves the illusion of control), but if large imbalances build up, and it seems they have due to the one-way-street of paper money vs products flow, can we stop the storm that will restore equilibrium? While the desire to maintain the status quo is great (as americans attempt to 'vote' themselves continued prosperity), the 'weight' of the imbalances may ultimately control events.

And for some of them it was only the moment that mattered
And on the brave and crazy wings of youth
They went flying around in the rain
And their feathers, once so fine, grew torn and tattered
And in the end they traded their tired wings
For the resignation that living brings
And exchanged love's bright and fragile glow
For the glitter and the rouge
And in the moment they were swept before the deluge
