Wealth has its privileges

It's probably only due force of circumstance, not nature of the persons, that could account for any difference in working habits by my view. You could argue that indoctrination over generations could lead to a divergence of working attitude. I doubt it though. Paretos Law steps in and generally takes care of miscreants on the wealthy side.

I remember somewhere reading that a fortune rarely extends to the third generation. All is revealed here...

Anyhow, I welcome your idea for social reform in the USA and elsewhere. Trouble is, a high expectation of success of improvement is necessary. That the new crowd will be better then the old. No doubt the social reformers in Russia in 1917 desired good to happen, and not millions to be slaughtered in the gulags under the worst dictatorship known to mankind.

So lets say you are a working class punter in an empire at the height of it's glory. What were living conditions like?

I've been reading some books by a guy from your neck of the woods (generally speaking, I once visited his ranch in CA) Jack London. All his work is published on the web. His non-fiction book "The people of the Abyss" shows life at the thin end of the wedge for the British Empire circa 1902.

The photo's are an eye opener too. Just look at the people sleeping rough in Green Park, a stones throw from Buckingham Palace!! Plenty of Music Hall joke material right there.

The lot of Mr or Mrs average is therefore not improved much by being a citizen of an Empire, other then your country is not invaded.

It comes down to a very difficult question. How do the ruling elite become best at ruling a nation? No simple answer. Leaning to the left is just as bad (worse) then leaning to the right.

So voting Bush and co out is one thing. Who do you replace them with to make something better??
