The Vichy government would not have existed but for the Germans, ergo, that government was created in response to the German invasion. You have said it yourself- "the other was invaded from within"- invaded from within is another way of saying the government arose indigenously- that is enough to make it legitimate barring crimes against humanity. There have been many worse governments, there have been many governments "invaded from within" that were awful, we do not generally pursue invasions in such cases- and in fact we didn't pursue Saddam- not until we obviously had US reasons to go after him. The suffering of his people was nothing to us. I've been bitching about the Kurds and the Iraqi treatment of them for years- no one cared. No until now. With our fake links to 9/11 and our silly WMD charges, and finally our pathetic wrapping of ourselves in the shroud of humanitarianism, NOw we say we care. Right. Suffering of a people is rarely a US concern, and it is disingenuous to try to raise that now, imo.
I am sure you would like this to be a Good War, a WWII. It isn't though. You will always be able to find similarities between any two things. The housefly and the human have plenty of DNA similarities, as well as some metaphorical ones- but that doesn't make them the same thing. I think your comparison of Iraq to Vichy is ridiculous, in time, in substance, and in manner- the more you post the more ridiculous it seems. But you've obviously convinced yourself, and since I already agree with myself, I see very little point in posting further.
I've no idea why you posted facts about the Vichy government. Were you under the impression I didn't know all about them already? If so, that was simply another error on your part. |
