It is difficult to predict which stocks will move when, but in general I've noticed that,

1. those on the US exchanges tend to move earlier
2. larger, higher-priced issues tend to move earlier
3. the small laggards on the Canadian exchanges tend to catch up in an extreme way.

Even while the XAU/HUI stocks are pulling back or consolidating, others are often being bought. No approach works perfectly, but this is why I do not chase short-term momentum and prefer to buy potential rather than kinetic energy.
