Actual earnings over the last year fell far short of First Call estimates. They are listed below thanks to one of Don's old posts. I also listed the current expectations for future earnings that can be found at Yahoo.

Symbol 2002 Price Price Now 2002 Earnings Est. Nx Yr.

AMAT 23 14 0.66 0.13
TER 31 12 0.31 -0.43
TXN 30 20 0.72 0.39
ALTR 20 15 0.49 0.34
MOT 15 7 0.40 0.35
INTC 28 18 1.00 0.59
XLNX 36 26 0.51 0.49

Stock prices last year at this time were higher because analysts expected better future earnings. They were wrong then. Their expectations may be too conservative now or perhaps still too high. The real question is simply whether we should be buying these stocks at current prices based on potential earnings growth?
