In fact, American media has made sure that we see the Israelis as the good guys, and only the good guys, while our gov't has made Israel the regional superpower.

This really isn't correct. There is a great deal of support for the Palestinians in the American media.

I think the lack of support for the Palestinians, where it exists, is centered around one thing -- terrorism. I think most Americans agree that no progress can be made on the Palestinian issue until the terrorism stops. This is certainly the perspective of the administration, and it would appear to be a sensible one. Stopping the terrorism is a necessary precondition to any resolution of the Palestinian issue.

Bush appears to have warmed up to the view that a resolution to the Palestinian issue will have some influence on MidEastern anti-Americanism, which is the root cause of terrorist attacks against us. I think he properly acknowledges that the Palestinian conflict is not, in reality, the MAIN reason for these attitudes, but it is a contributing factor.
