Phil > I am skeptical that any kind of arrangement, with very old and present enemies will come together to oppose the US

Don't forget, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, as we saw when Capitalist US sided with Communist Russia against Fascist Nazi Germany. So, it's possible we will see many new and unexpected alignments, admittedly tacit at first. Clearly, the US has the most powerful military at the moment but, in the long run, how can 300 million reasonably expect to dominate 6 billion.

I have previously made mention of a wild life movie I saw some years ago which included a scene about a pack of wild dogs hunting and bringing down a lion. In the process, a few of the dogs were killed and a few badly injured but they eventually kill the lion. To me, that was a salutary lesson for any bully who thinks he can dominate the smaller and weaker ones forever.

Stranger things have happened.

>Even the Chinese are mute to protect their economic ties with the West.

Sure, and why not. But their inscrutable smile tells us that they know they will win in the end. In fact, they may have won already --- within very few years their economy will prove that.
