Agreed - As I hope mankind has evolved a bit in 2000-5000 years, (posts by nazi cowards to the contrary), supporting a modern bias with reference to selected passages from ancient volumes is a reprehensible argument.
There is much of value and beauty in all the books mentioned, including, OT, NT, Koran, Talmud, NT commentaries, etc., and there are horrid passages also. I don't know that much about Buddha's teachings and Hindu prophets, but it seems to be growing in popularity as inclusive rather than exclusive. Yet, there have been many, many wars because of the religious differences there.
As I pointed out before, I'd hate that someone in 2000 years would judge all Americans by my posts. Today's message boards are like the commentaries of the Talmud and those put forth by the followers of Jesus. As there is no proof of any religious facts, it's all opinion. Opinions can differ. It gets dangerous when you have the haters like Emile saying that unless your opinion of a higher being is exactly as his is, then you are subhuman, going to hell, and perhaps deserve to be eliminated.
Of everything beautiful in the NT, here is what Emile chose to quote in his profile.
Howbeit no man spake of him(Jesus) openly for fear of the Jews. (John 7:13)--Neither is there salvation in any other name:..no other name,..under heaven..whereby we must be saved. (Acts Ch.4:12)
Of course, someone like Jim doesn't even bother with the mental master baiting of an Emile. He's an outright hater, bigot and coward and proud of that. |
