You make some good points. My feeling is that in a perfect world, there is a consensus. Everyone knows what is right and the decisions, after building a consensus, are easy.

In this case, the world was willing to wait perhaps for years or decades while Iraq played a dance. I believe France would never have gone along so long as there was even miniscule progress.

The US decided to do what is right, alone. I'm proud of that decision. It was a big gamble and, so far, it looks like it was right on the mark.
