the transition was not that strange since I came from one of the "open" to west cities. We worked hard and it paid off. We worked hard in Russia as well but pay of was never coming there.

The most strange that I found is misconceptions on either of the extreme sides:
1) russians were not blood thirsty animals as many on the extreme right claimed
2) there were no real freedom in russia as many on left claimed

I found that life here is far better and the press is much more honest
