The difference is in the eye of the beholder.

What I see in the case of Poland is warsaw pact vs NATO, solidarnosc (and pope) vs communist party, a nation between a wall and a hard stone ("noch ist Polen nicht verloren" etc). And in the case of Iraq I see a land with rich history, getting from under Osmanic rule just to get subjugated by colonial British, then carved out into a state that looks like (especially to neighbours...) something out of Picasso.

They are different countries. Different ways of getting there - to the common goal.So where's (or what's) the argument?
