This did not / would not work, because of the essential role of red blood cells in oxygen transport. Plus - even if yes - invading RBCs without leaving any signs of trauma does not give the immuno system any chance - should they knock and politely check if everything is OK...

PS: back in prehistoric times (my masters degree) I dabbled with this subject (haemoglobin I mean), so this is not entirely googleware - (googledidook. A term that one may find useful...)
