Bush is smart to set up 4 bases.

So far as I can tell, this "story" originated with the NY Times, perhaps the biggest liar of a newspaper in the nation. I seriously doubt that (a) we would WANT 4 bases in Iraq, and (b) however many we DO want, that we would be announcing it at this point. The story is likely a lie.

It will take years to get the Iraqis used to elections and democracy. Sure, the Muslim world will not like it at first but tough.

I believe we'll be, for the most part, out in 24 months. Obviously, we'll still have a few people around, but frankly, Bush has a stated objective of a short-term occupation, and I haven't seen the guy fail on a single thing he has attempted thus far -- unless every Democrat stood up and obstructed what he was trying to do.

I would hope even the Democrats, desperate to win at any cost, would not be able to prolong our occupation of a foreign country for political purposes. I think they would if they could, I just don't think they can.
