William, RE: IP Protection

I spoke with CEO Rak Kumar on this issue. He told me that the critical technology they possess relates to the way the print heads are ganged together and also the paper handling mechanism, both designed for max throughput. He said they have patent applications in for both these technologies and thinks RGFX has 1-2 year lead time in these areas. The piezoelectric printhead itself, which is used in the P-5000, is made (surprisingly) by Nu-Kote's MIT division in Zurich. I called Nu-Kote and they confirmed this. A Nu-Kote manager told me that the technology was developed at IBM and that Nu-Kote bought the rights to make it at an "estate sale" in 1995! I don't have the details on this.
