I don't think there is anyone trying to cover up, although the gov., especially Guangdong provincial gov. has not done the publicity they should have back in Feb. This thing has been in People's daily (offical Chinese newspaper) since Feb., so everyone who read the paper should know it.

Backsight is 20:20. And no one, not even people in HK, who have a transparent system, and highly publicity on SARS, anticipated the Contiguousness of SARS. little is know for the disease, and healthy people can carry the virus for as long as 3 weeks, if not longer. So realistically, not until a big number of people all get infected, it would not caused too much attention. China has 173,000 people dead of Respiratory disease every year. And Guangdong has quarantine the suspected cased from day 1, but still they could not quarantine people who has no symptom, whatsoever.

Not to mention no one in China has this type of experience, and there is NO any national surveillance system existed before this. So even if Guangdong had given a big big publicity for SARS, it would not necessarily stop the spreading of the SARS, because they cannot quarantine every one in Guangdong! Just my opinion. And blame all you want. It is your right, although no use at all.
