>> Suppose they are Nazis?
Never met one to my knowledge, but extreme types of all stripes, to my experience, usually wear their heart on their sleeve and say something stupid and offensive in short order. If they have great self discipline, and color inside the guidelines, more power to'em. I'm not opposed to talking to the enemy. It seems to me that knowledge can bring strength...you know what I mean.
>>So is he banned?
EV specifically? Yes (don't remember why...)
>>Would he be?
Well, see above, but if you mean some hypothetical person, see answer #1.
>>Would someone else be for calling him KKK or Nazi?
In a PM? No...but we'd talk about it.
Public posting? Yeah, I'd gripe at them and, depending on how seriously they have been a supporter of the thread, maybe ask them not to post for a day or two. You see the trouble is that it's easy to get into situations where a moderator can get whip-sawed by several differing opinions -- people really pressure you sometimes. It's been my experience that all that stuff needs to be checked at the door and then each poster makes his or her own negative or positive contribution to the thread and then they have to live with it.
I try to go with only the evidence that I've witnessed because so many people (smart people) have so many conflicting agendas (and history!) here on SI that I can't know everything. Most people I don't know from Adam, so I start, or at least I try to start, from a blank slate with almost everyone.
An unfortunate side effect of this is that some posters, who have a certain "position" here on SI, get really bent when I, who have no idea "who" they are, treat them just like everyone else, you know, the unwashed masses<g>. But usually things get worked out.
I hope I've answered your questions.
