If I was a Syrian, that would be a priority. Since I'm an American, I feel mainly responsible for what my own government and army are doing. And I'm not going to let any other nation's bad example be used as an excuse to continue bad American policies.

The Syrians have already offered to allow intrusive inspections of WMD sites, if Israel does also. That was a cute way of pointing out the hypocrisy of U.S. policy (only our friends can have WMD).

Perhaps the Syrians would also be willing to withdraw from Lebanon, as part of a general withdrawal of all armies in the region back home. U.S. out of Iraq, Israel out of Golan and the West Bank, Turkey out of Kurdistan.

Or perhaps we should set a good example first.
