US withdrawal from Iraq wouldn't be setting a good example, it would encourage other counties in the region, including Iran, to take advantage of the situation, causing more chaos than exists now.

I never really wanted to believe that anti-war demonstrators aimed their protest exclusively at the US. I wanted to believe that the real morality behind their protest applied universally to every nation on earth. I've come to realize that was naive.

Perhaps the Syrians would also be willing to withdraw from Lebanon, as part of a general withdrawal of all armies in the region back home. U.S. out of Iraq, Israel out of Golan and the West Bank, Turkey out of Kurdistan.

Or perhaps we should set a good example first.
