You are correct, most countries do not support our liberation of Iraq. Even, most countries that know the U.S. (like the French and Germans) best were against the war. Of course, because they know Americans best, they also believe that the Middle East will be more stable, and Iraqis will lead better lives, because of U.S. actions. The truth is, only the United States is able to free the Iraqi people, or stop genocide in the Balkans - both actions done without the blessings of the UN.
If you want to call it Imperialism, too bad - Germany, Japan, Chile, even Afghanistan and now Iraq are better off because of the Americans. The most likely truth is, that the United States will soon have a large trade deficit with Iraq - and the Iraqi people will benefit most. |
