Some bashoids peddle the canard that when Silver Lake Partners took Seagate private the original Seagate stockholders were left with nothing. Look at what they are calling nothing: slpartners.com news.com.com They extrapolate too much from their anecdotal exposures to various types of bankruptcy proceedings. Creditors may own only debt, but common stockholders own equity. If an entity of some value is to survive -- whether it be private or public -- their equity interests represent fractions of that value.
