This is my collective answer for you, KLP, and CB (my answer to JB would get me into trouble <g>).

First there is an issue of scale. I don't see any Hitlers around. I don't even see too many Saddams around. So, imo it is wrong to set the policy based on exceptions.

Secondly it is an issue of priority. A well organized and civil international community is the best defense against brutal dictators in a similar manner that a strong civil society is the one that can best handle local mobsters; we first establish order in the society then we go after the thugs and I don't see why this should be different on the international scale.

And thirdly, it is wrong for one nation alone to take it upon itself to be the judge, jury, and the executioner. The rule of law is what distinguishes civilization from savagery.

PS CB, I don't know why kind of lawyer you are, but you sure don't seem to distinguish between action and inaction against its opposite.
