Engineered Support Receives $7.1 Million Order For Deployable Power System
From U.S. Army

ST. LOUIS, April 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Engineered Support Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: EASI) received a $7.1 million order
from the U.S. Army for the production of its Deployable Power Generation and
Distribution System (DPGDS) and related equipment. The current order,
received by the Company's Radian Inc. (Radian) subsidiary located in
Alexandria, Virginia, brings the total DPGDS equipment ordered during the
twelve-month period following the Company's acquisition of Radian to $61.7
million, according to Gerald E. Daniels, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer.
The new order is comprised of two U.S. Army Platoon Sets and two U.S. Army
Company sets. Each Platoon Set consists of four 920-kilowatt MEP-PU-810B
Prime Power Units and more than one hundred associated electrical utility
power distribution components. Company Sets include additional electrical
power generation and distribution equipment, which enables the tailoring of
the DPDGS to a wider variety of missions. Work on the order will commence
immediately with delivery scheduled by the end of September of this year to
meet urgent for these items.
The DPGDS is an air transportable electrical power generation and
distribution system that can be configured to provide electrical power for
military operations or humanitarian missions ranging from a small, isolated
outpost to a fully operational, forward deployed U.S. base. The 920-kilowatt
DPGDS is a joint U.S. Army and Air Force program designed as a replacement for
existing 750-kilowatt sets that incorporate outdated technology, are
inefficient and require excessive maintenance. In contrast, the DPGDS power
units have high power density, are 25% lighter and 15% more fuel efficient,
and possess increased reliability and maintainability.
Engineered Support Systems, Inc. is a diversified supplier of high-tech,
integrated military electronics, support equipment and logistics services for
all branches of America's armed forces and certain foreign militaries. The
Company also serves a variety of commercial customers. For more information
