It's probably only a matter of time before we get a single outbreak on a cruise ship, and there would go the cruise industry. How comfortable would you be going to a movie and sitting in the same room as several hundred other people any one of which could be infected and could potentially kill you or your family? There goes the movie business...

it strikes me that SARS related investment "opportunities", such as they are, may be more likely to appear on the short side than the long side. i am already short from pre-SARS days a movie theater chain for other reasons but this possibility you mention has also crossed my mind and may eventually affect my own movie patronage.

i have also been wondering if the many independent Chinese restaurants that dot our land will experience a slowdown in business.

not to mention mall REITs, which i have already avoided like the plague (no pun intended) due to their vulnerability if some terrorist attacks occur there. face masks were already popular in parts of Asia in normal times when people had colds, etc. but i think Americans would freak out if people walk around malls with masks and goggles on.

thanks very much for starting this thread.
