Interesting- well, fwiw I have made very little on employee stock options myself- but I have been accused of being someone who has profited greatly from options here on SI. Its kind of like telling people to "eat cake" when I defend the options model though, or that is the response I get. You are correct this is a political issue mostly now though. The problem is that with widespread individual stock ownership, Silicon Valley is stuck kowtowing to politicians that shouldn't be involved in matters like this. If it were 1985, we could have solved the problem locally and moved on.... individuals didn't care about stocks then.
