Recognizing that "The Network Is the Computer" is a big one (Mickeysoft still doesn't understand that). Developing a processor architecture that's still viable many years later (unlike X86, which even Intel will admit is reaching its EOL except as an "edge" device) is another. Then don't forget backplanes and other interconnects with decent bandwidth, the use of standard, non-proprietary software rather than software whose functionality is determined by what best accomplishes customer lock-in, a business model that doesn't require buying out one's competitors in order to shut them down as a survival tactic, NFS, Java, SmartCards, ...

JMHO.
