PERMANENT U.S. MILITARY BASES
Ed,
You've got to be one of the most naive people on this board to believe Rumsfeld when he tells you in his disingenuous way that "I have never heard the subject of a permanent base in Iraq discussed,"
Please do a little research. You will find that in the aftermath of the Bosnia and Kosovo operations, we now have new permanent military bases in Kosovo and Bulgaria. In the aftermath of the Afghanistan action, we now have permanent major military bases at Bagram, outside of Kabul and in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. We also have sent military assets to Kazakstan, Turkmenistan and Georgia.
Subsequent to the Gulf War in 1991 we have established permanent major U.S. military installations in Qatar and Kuwait and now maintain a military presence in the UAE, Oman, Yemen and retain our major bases in Saudia Arabia.
To think that we won't be establishing permanent major bases in Iraq is utterly naive. Of course we will. Don't you understand that the new by-word in American foreign policy is intimidation? We fully intend to intimidate, strong-arm and coerce Syria and Iraq into an obsequiousness and a position where these Muslim nations are no longer felt to be a threat to Israel. This being, of course, the goal of an unholy and crackpot religious alliance between Zionists and the crazy born-again Christians who are chomping at the bit for their "Rapture" episode. It's all really sad. It's all really insane. |
