I'm not sure there's a fair comparison in terms of service here. WW2 was much, much larger in terms of number of servicemen involved (and % of population) and much longer in duration.

OTOH, I don't remember any of 1940's Hollywood taking a shot at the war or the President like Michael Moore. They probably would have been HUNG if they did.
