Or maybe, I don't like jazz at all and don't listen to or follow its artists.

One of us seems to be lacking in culture. Let's see:

You seem to think whatever "Pepe le Pew" is, it is "the only French icon". I am fluent in French and I live in a town surrounded by France. I speak with the French and watch French TV. I follow their press. And when you recited "Pepe" as "the only French cultural icon", I had no idea what you were talking about.

I did a Google search and now I see, with horror, that you are referring to some cartoon caracter as "culture".

Your other references to "culture", as contributed by Italians, were Gina Lolobrigida and Hercules movies.

I am sorry to break this to you but none of that really qualifes as "culture".

Yes. One of us seems to be so "culturally deficient" as to be sadly unaware of even what it is. Hint: It ain't some cinema chick, and it ain't some cartoon character.

Try literature and philosophy. Read a bit of history. Go to a museum or two. Learn about lifestyles. Only then can you compare the cultural richness of France and the US.

It is not surprising that in its several hundred years of tradition, America has not established a significant culture of its own. What is very VERY suprising is that some of its people seem capable of deluding themselves re their "superiority" to the point of redifining "culture" in terms of what they have - jazz musicians, movies, and cartoons.

You would not want to know what this looks like from the outside. Suffice it to say that it is very sad.
