Hi Zonder. Good for you not to know. A pogrom is when men only get together to go to kill a few or more Jews in the same or adjacent villages, most usually with knives. A Russian word. But pogroms did happen in every Arab country, including Tunisia. A pogrom does not start in a blue cloudless sky. Usually there are precursors: the fever among young adults grows up in the main coffee shops etc. I know some about it because both my parents were involved in the creation of a Anti Pogrom Protection Team in the lost southern villages of Algeria, consisting of arming the proto Jewish communities and teaching them how to fight etc. Surprizingly, Zionism was not in their program. That was after WWII, and they were idle for a while. The French gov objected and had them stopped and expelled from Algeria (however they were French); because for the French, a pogrom was the best and cheapest way to calm the pre independence fever bursts the Arabs had.
