I think that when people start getting electricity, water and especially health care food back things will shift. A new government will be put in, that's for sure. People will go for thems that feeds them.

That's what I'm counting on... (knock on wood)..

But if we lift the sanctions, then there will be no real leverage as to who gets to conduct trade and who doesn't (vis a vis the Shiite militants)..

The "sticks" the US has available to it in Iraq seem rather limited, IMO. The "carrots" should not be given out too freely lest certain non-democratic political players take us for granted, or take credit for improving the lot of the average Shiite Arab...

And that credit should rightly go to those who risk the lives of their soldiers to make the Iraqi people free... :0)
