Kerry doesn't blame American first, he blames Bush for failing us on almost every single meaningful issue a president is responsible for handling. Bush's lack of new ideas and solutions is appalling. In fact, most of his policies actually make the problems worse.

Kerry's war record is important because is starkly differentiates him from the cliched notion of a "Massachusetts liberal" like Dukakis. It also proves his courage, manliness (important because the right always attempts to emasculate Dem candidates, impossible with JK) and sincerity when he speaks about America's defense, veterans and government service.

JK is tough as they come on counter-terrorism, backed the Iraq War but pushed for broader diplomacy, did not kowtow to the anti-war groups, will stand tough on all our real security needs but will at the same time keep our friends close and cooperative around the world.

Bush's crew has alienated so many allies of ours it will take a new administration to heal the rifts. And those are costly rifts. My guess is the only reason they alienated so many was because they wanted Iraqi oil for themselves. What other explanation? If Bush had waited a few weeks, he could have gotten a dozen or two more countries to join us in Iraq. But he was determined to go it alone. And this I see as a breach of duty and compromise of US interests. After all, what is trust and popularity worth to the US around the world? A lot more than a few extra oil-fields.
