Sam Houston's plan was to declare Texas's independence of Mexico including all the citizens in it. At the time, he was a Mexican too BTW. The Texas revolution was only one of several Mexican rebellions following Santa Anna's coup and overturning of the Mexican constitution. Texas was the only successful one though. Does redeeming mean you don't have any timber big enough to cut yet? Well, how about level land suitable for homes?
