According to what I read when searching for an answer for the original question that may be worth a shot but if the thief has access to google he can easily find the answer to bypassing that as well. Assuming the discussions I read were from people that know what they're talking about, a bios password can be bypassed by a switch inside the computer case. The consensus seemed to be that if one has physical access to the machine, it can be used.
