"U.S. Planners Surprised by Strength of Iraqi Shiites"
John,
And before it was "U.S. Planners Surprised by Strength of Iraqi Resistance". Later it will be something else that the bushies got wrong or did wrong like in the middle of a war they forgot about protecting museums--big stuff like that.
Getting an A+ seems to be your requirement for Bush admin. Were you so harsh on your students?
As for the Shiites, they are in the middle of venting after 24 years of pent up religous feelings caused by repression. Obviously they dont want a Christian country running the show in iraq. It doesnt mean however that all is lost. Many shiites are secularists. The north and central parts of iraq wont allow themselves to be ruled by clerics imo. The real danger is that the south will split off from the rest of iraq which is what i suspect the iranians are really after. And they have been warned.
Also the fact of the US presence and the fact that most iraqis do not want mullahs in power preclude this possibility as well. B+ is a good enough grade for a nation that is trying to do the right thing in an area of the world that we are really are first learning about. But i guess the UN would do it better like in kosovo. Mike
