In this day of media lapdogs, many Americans have forgotten the press is supposed to function as a watchdog on government and miscreants. To "afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted". This helps keep the wheels of democracy greased. If government officials come out blasting a reporter, he should be regarded as a hero, because he is just doing his job, in all likelihood. The lot in life given to investigative reporters, is to be unpopular. Seymour Hersh is indeed, a national hero. Do they curse him in government? Indeed they do. This is as it should be. Does the burglar love the watchdog? Hardly.
