I was beginning to wonder if there was anyone out there following this company. I bought XLNX for several reasons, which I will share below. I am interested in hearing the perspective of others as to why the think this is either a good or bad investment.

Reasons to own XLNX:

Over-all strength in the electronics industry assures sustained growth in the semiconductor market.

New .35 micron (and smaller) fab processes improve yields and help maintain margins in a market that is experiencing some price competition (paricularly from Altera).

Shorter product developement and life cycles give FPGA's an increasing advantage over ASIC's in many applications.

Recent product developments at XLNX (XL series parts and Alliance M1 place and route tools) should answer some of the end user's criticisms of thier products. i.e. slow operation, limits on part utilization and slow place and route.

-------------

My company uses XLNX chips in their product designs. In the next couple months, I will have the opportunity to do some bench marking between the old and new tools and parts. The results of these tests will tell me whether to hold XLNX for the long term or sell it and by ALTR.
