The war was over Zionism and the takeover of Palestinian lands. It was a war of self-defence by the Palestinians. Now their so marginalized that they can only respond by throwing rocks and using by using suicide bombers. Isrealis have tanks, fighter jets, attack helicopters, a huge well-armed standing army. They're bullies, just like the US is.
