When the USSR collapsed and the threat of war was reduced considerably, the military industry needed a new BAD GUY. Along comes Saddam and we suddenly need to arm ourselves again.

Tada! Exactly! That's, unfortunately, how the world really works. They need to create enemies to justify high levels of military spending. Which is why I'm suspicious of the events surrounding 9/11. So many people, especially in the military industrial complex have benefitted from 9/11. That alone would make you wonder if there was a conspiracy surrounding 9/11. Add to that all the other stuff about jets that weren't scrambled in a timely manner and the reaction of our leaders to the unprecedented attack and the squashed pre-9/11 investigations and I'm really suspicious.

How about North Korea? The first thing Bush did when he came to office was end diplomatic relations with North Korea. What's up with that? He never explained why he was ending diplomatic relations with N. Korea. The Clinton Administration had dipolmatic relations with N. Korea that were working pretty well. Bush just ended them and created a whole new crises that justifies even more military spending.

I hate to say it, but I don't think that our leaders have our best interests in mind. They're looking out for themselves and their wealthy cronies.
