Did you go through the whole ketosis thing?
No. Didn't do the full Atkins thing. I have a problem with a diet that doesn't allow carrots. I had some ketostix in the medicine chest from way back and tried one just out of curiosity but wasn't in ketosis. Either that of the stuff was just old.
OMG, you eat salmon for breakfast?
Actually, I almost never eat breakfast. I'm rarely hungry in the morning and my first rule is to eat only when hungry. When I do have a need for breakfast, I either have GoLean if I'm in a hurry or salmon if I'm not.
I got the salmon breakfast thing from Dr. Perricone, who makes a lot of sense to me. Saw him on PBS a while back. He thinks the best breakfast is salmon. One of his points is about cortisol (bad--causes carb cravings and depression and wrinkles <g>) and growth hormone (good--reduces cortisol) and insulin (bad--blocks growth hormone). Says you should eat your protein first at any meal to obviate insulin and glucose spikes and start the day with protein and that the best protein is salmon because it reduces cortisol and has omega fatty acids. Ergo, salmon for breakfast. At least that's my simplistic understanding of it.
As a practical matter, though, you could say I eat salmon for breakfast because my first meal is lunch and that is most commonly sashimi. <g>
I like eggs, too. Eat them often. Occasionally with whole grain bread, even. Never tried low carb bread. Seemed simpler to me to just not have any. You know how reduced calorie muffins and cookies are alleged to have caused the obesity epidemic. What looks like a good thing isn't always.
About a savory oatmeal dish:
I'm having trouble getting my head around oatmeal and tofu. Mushrooms, perhaps, and ginger is definitely appealing. And your Mexican version looks promising. If I hit a winner, I'll let you know. |
