Paul Martin is the heir apparent to Jean Chretien as leader of the Liberal Party. The Liberals will hold a leadership convention in November of this year, ahead of Chretien's retirement in February next year. Martin was runner-up to Chretien last time, and is considered practically unbeatable now.

Stephen Harper is leader of the Canadian Alliance, the second-largest party in the House of Commons, and as such is leader of the opposition.

Understand on the question of Iraq I'm trying to expound something that might be the Canadian government position, if anyone could figure it out. I'm chewing on a couple of thoughts in that vein. Later.
