>It's too early to tell the specifics of this, Michael.
John, everything about the decision to invade Iraq was linked. From WMD, to terrorism, to the humanitarian crisis, to promoting peace and democracy in the Middle East. They may have been surrounded and fed by a pool of oil, but oil was no more important than the rest.
This linkage of multiple issues, plays a similar role as to why Saddam was a uniquely dangerous dictator compared to other world dictators. What made Saddam uniquely dangerous, was the combination of his desire to invade other countries, his willingness to use wmd, and his feeding of terrorism around the globe with the vast oil wealth of Iraq. We have now born witness to the child prison cells, the torture chambers, the family members looking for loved ones who disappeared in the dead of night by bloodthirsty scum, and the outlandish greed while so many were going without food or medicine. I ask, what more is needed to say, "they are better off today"?
Two months ago, the Iraqi people were controlled through fear, rape, torture and slavery. Today they are not. Today, the Iraqi people can protest. Today, they can work side by side with other people from around the world and help solve the humanitarian crisis created by Hussien's fanatical grip of power. Today, the fear has been replaced with hope.
A madman had his throat on millions and it's now been removed. If all some can see through all of this is criticism of what Bush's team is failing to do, then I'm truly disappointed. |
