I've noticed that as well. Because of this I've been more or less assuming that perhaps Emile and Gustave are themselves Palestinians.

On the other hand, Gustave has said some things that are beyond political and religious, and are intended to be demeaning and insulting. It has occurred to me that he may be a throwback to Germany of the 30's & 40's.
