Anderson Indiana declared dead
Post from Caddman in response to my question about potential GM walkout when contract is up
===========================================================
GM contract expires in September.

The only way there will be a walkout is if sales are so bad, GM loses money operating or shut down. GM always caves.

The UAW is not actively fighting job losses at former division spin-offs and other Tier I suppliers. Maybe the UAW is trying to save some goodwill. I posted a few days ago that the UAW plan seems to be to entrench themselves in the final assembly and Detroit area jobs.

Anderson Indiana is GTZ now. GM had Inland Fischer Guide, Delco Remy and Delco Electronics division plants in Anderson.

Delco Remy spun off to form Delco Remy International - RMY for a while, now private. Closed last UAW production facility last month.

Delco Electronics spun off to Delphi - Delphi closes last production '02

Guide spun off as own company. - Employess that can retire or flow back, have. Replacements are at temp work wage of about $14/hour. Guide threatened to move to a southern state if UAW argued.

Ghost town...schools are poor, decaying industrial buildings everywhere. No hope for new industry replacing the old. Realator friend said that normaly Anderson area has about 200 homes for sale at any given time...now over 400, and nothing is moving. New homes are to the west and south. Those communities are becoming bedroom communities of Indianapolis.
