Rumour on Viragen

"Viragen Inc. [VRA] has begun development of a clinical interferon grade vaccine against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) using their natural interferon program technology."

hmmmm... don't know quite what to make of that.. sounds like a broker's hype to me..

For one thing coronavirus incubates in the nasal passages, so it has a very poor immune system response. It has many serotypes and many antigen varieties complicating global antibody formation. It is even unresponsive to culture test until at least 10 days after infection. As well as that, it will replicate by RNA transcription and evolves defenses quickly. That is why a vaccine has never been developed against the common cold.

This disease may resond in testing to a technology developed by a Canadian company at Western University whereby silicon chips are linked to biological agents to produce a test matrix device that operates on blood or fluids to provide instant diagnosis for a wide variety of illnesses. The unit cost was supposed to be about 30 dollars, so it not been supported widely. Early diagnosis may be the key to containing the spread. This may not be routinely possible, as the development of detectable live virii or antigens may be dependent on other factors than detection methodology per se.
