In 1974, Israel's enemies, the Arabs, made the PLO, a terrorist group that murdered Israeli Olympic athletes at the Munich Olympics, in 1972, and whose charter called for the destruction of the state od Israel,the "sole legitimate representative of the Palestine people."
These same Arabs have kept the Palestinians in refugee camps since 1948. These are Arabs living in Arab countries who are not allowed to assimilate. Don't you wonder about UN administered "refugee camps" in the West Bank and Gaza? These are Palestinina "refugees" living among Palstinians.
The Israelis are following the right path. They have responded to Arab and Palestinian belligerency by defeating it militarily and acquiring land. The lesson of the Sinai has been learned. "Land for peace" doesn't work. The Cold War dominated most of the time of Israel's existence. Israel was a US ally and the Arabs were Soviet clients. Israel benefitted from being on the right side. The Cold War is over and the Arabs are clients of nobody. The Arabs decided to attack the US on 9/11. Big mistake. Two "Islamic" regimes, one Arab, have been crushed. The rest of the Arab world know that their status quo, ignorant, impoverished citizenry fed anti-Semetic hate propaganda while a rich elite steals the wealth, is going to change.
By the way, before the two Intifadas, the Palestinians were the most prosperous in the Arab world, if you eliminate the royalty and immediate family of oil kingdoms. |
