Hopefully a great nation will survive this era of Fox, CNN, Dianne Sawyer (patronising the Dixie Chicks for dissent), O'Reilly, Limbaugh, McLaughlin, and so many others. But here in the middle of all of it one wonders if there's any hope at all.

It's extraordinary that politics is so personalised that Bush and Powell can talk of punishing France for daring to oppose the United States, and the media cheer. Hopefully the main European powers will ally themselves with the French and not allow them to be isolated. And so one has to ask 'whither Blair?'
